Scott County Announces Highway 101 Bridge to be Replaced in 2008
December 18th, 2007 Posted in CommunityDecember 17, 2007 – Shakopee, Minnesota: “Based on the extensive structural inspections we conducted on the small bridge on Highway 101 in Shakopee [just east of Dangerfield’s restaurant],” said Scott County Highway Engineer Mitch Rasmussen, “Public Works has decided to keep the lane restrictions in effect until the bridge can be fully replaced, sometime next spring.”
The Highway 101 bridge has been restricted to the inner two lanes since Monday, November 5.
“It’s important to note,” said Scott County Public Works Director Lezlie Vermillion, “That the reinforcements in the bridge are intact and present no immediate danger to the public. But Scott County takes any infrastructure impairment seriously, and – as such – we’ve both identified and received advanced funding to completely replace this bridge next year.”
According to Rasmussen, plans for the new bridge are being finalized and will be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Transportation for approval in January. The project’s bid letting is on track to be advertised in late January, with a bid opening date sometime in February. Construction is expected to begin in early March, and the road will likely be closed from March through June 2008.
